Should Parents Be Held Responsible for Their Childrens Needs and Actions free essay sample

There are many pros and cons over the argument on whether parents should be held responsible for their children’s actions or not. Some people claim that yes parents should because they are the authority figure in that child’s life, while others say no, believing that if the child can choose to do something wrong then they must be held accountable,† if parents are found liable for their childrens actions when they are young, they will do a better job at raising them. -( McCartney, Brown, Tribune 242) I personally believe that while a child is young the parents are responsible for anything their child has done but once the child is at the age where they are allowed by the government to learn to drive and control a large moving object, they should then be held accountable for their own actions. Children these days are more rebellious and defiant than they have been in the past and the reason, people claim, is with the way these adolescents are being raised. Teens are going out and getting drunk and doing all sorts of different drugs just because their parents won’t tell them that they can’t. Parents are losing a grip on their kids by not punishing them properly or by simply letting them get away with doing whatever they want. This in turn makes kids want to do reckless and stupid things that can potentially hurt not only themselves but others around them. Many say that it is wrong to lock a minor up in a juvenile detention center simply because they are too â€Å"young† and â€Å"don’t know any better†. Kids, Teens especially, are old enough to know what is right or not and I believe serving time in a juvenile center is the right course of action to teach them a lesson. The problem though is not all parents are teaching their children the difference between right and wrong which is what’s causing children to act out. Kids who have been taught the difference but choose to break rules know that what they are doing is wrong. Those are they type of kids that need to be held accountable for what they do. â€Å"If the adults were to take the blame for their children’s actions, the children would not get the chance to experience failure, and would repeat their mistakes again and again, until they become adults themselves and have to face the same mistakes that their parents took responsibility for. Isn’t it better for them to correct their mistakes when they are young than to epeat their mistakes and continue to let their parents take the blame until they grow up and face the same mistakes, but do not know how to learn from it? †- (ecosphere, Gomestic. com). Yes, some say that not all children are fully adjusted and are still trying to grasp the knowledge of things and should be given a fair waning instead of a punishment. Parents are blessed with the opportunity to teach their chil dren how to behave and act civil but many choose to be lazy and not take it. Are these the parents who should be held accountable? How do you differentiate the parents who teach their kids and the ones who don’t? That’s the problem with the whole situation. You can’t tell the difference because people lie, whether it is the kids who know better and chooses to say they were never taught or it is the parents who didn’t teach and claims they did. On the other hand parents should be held completely responsible for the welfare of their children. They brought these kids into this world and they need to protect and care for them as though their life depends on the survival of their children. Children cannot and should not be left to fend for themselves when they have parents around to help them. â€Å"Parents are legally responsible for their childrens welfare until they reach adulthood. Part of caring for children is providing adequate supervision. Under some circumstances a parent can be charged with neglect for leaving children unattended. -(Child Care Resource Service). It is the job of a parent to provide all things needed for a child to live, like food, shelter, clothing and health care. Kids don’t have the means to go out and earn money to support them while they have other obligations like school and possibly siblings. Parents bring children into this world and are therefore legally responsible for the needs of their kids. They should not have to be held responsible for the actions of their children once they r each a certain age.
